Award Winner for Best Party of the Year 2002
MBR:
How long has your group been together?
Terri: The NSC has been
together since 2001.
MBR:
Where did the name of your club/organization come from?
Terri: Members
of the NSC Freestyle Rollers come from a combination of cities in both North and
South Carolina and each of us have our own skate style.
MBR:
Where did you all meet?
Kim: We met through traveling to the different
skating rinks in the areas of South Carolina and North Carolina.
MBR:
What made you decide to join a skating club/organization?
Kim:I
had ideas of what I wanted to do within the skate world, and after talking with
the people from North Carolina we found out that some of our ideas were the same,
so we thought why not combine and bring two small states together, to promote
skating to adults with a positive outcome.
MBR:
We all have reasons why we skate. Why do you skate? What motivates you to skate?
Terri: I have always loved to skate, however, I did not know many adults
who loved skating. For me skating is fun, relaxing and another form of exercise.
It is a way to meet people, which is the reason I have visited so many cities
that I would not have any other time.
Kim:
I skate because I love the feeling of doing moves while rolling and the continuous
learning. I'm motivated to skate because of all the different styles of skating
I see on a daily basis. There is so much I want to learn, and I want to stay on
top of my game so that I can stay as healthy as I can, along with meeting new
people and staying close with old friends. When the music is right and you're
in the zone, there's no other feeling like it.
MBR:
How did you feel when you found out you were an Adrenalin Nominee?
Terri:
I felt honored because we (NSC Freestyle Rollers) were one of the 'new kids on
the block' and 'Rolling in the Carolinas' was our first party.
Kim:
When I found out I was nominated for "Best Female", I was very excited. I thought
that other skaters felt like I could really skate. I'm continuously learning,
so my nomination made skating that much more exciting to me.
MBR:
Did you campaign to get people to vote for you or did you just sit back and let
the voters make an unsolicited decision?
Terri: No, we did not
campaign for Party of the Year, because this is not politics. Skating is supposed
to be something fun that everyone loves to do. To me, trying to get people to
vote for you for whatever reason, is taking away from that. Plain and simple -
there was no need to campaign . . . if the skaters were to decide, then that is
what they do.
Kim:
First of all, I didn't know I needed to campaign. I never felt like this was supposed
to be an election of some sort, like I was running for an office. I felt like
the skaters had a choice and they would choose the person they felt was the best
overall.
MBR:
How did you feel when you won?
Terri: I felt wonderful and very
thankful, because as stated before, we were one of the 'new kids on the block'.
We are very thankful for the advice and help we received to help plan 'Rolling
in the Carolinas'. To all the skaters who supported the First Annual 'Rolling
in the Carolinas' - Thank you, thank you and thank you again and we are happy
you enjoyed yourselves!!!!
