Hello skate family, we the Pittsburgh Steel City Rollers would like to applaud everyone who came out to our skate party this past weekend and made it a huge success. We all had a blast at the Meet and Greet with the game "Minute to Win It" hosted by my wifey and those who sang their heart out with Karaoke. Also, we are blessed that Canada came deep this year and represented as well as Buffalo's Nickel City Rollers you all are awesome and so much fun and we can't wait to roll with you again. Thanks to OHIO all the cities were represented and we love you for your continued support. I wanna thank our volunteers as usual you ladies hold down the buffet line with your top hats and PSCR aprons you look good and I thank each of you for just helping out and keeping the buffet line open all night. Thanks to my PSCR crew Wimpy, Ms. Pittsburgh, Ms Blurr, Blondie, Tom the Dogg Trainer, Smooth, and Wifey I love you all and could not have done it without you. You all are what makes this skate party a true success. We rolled both Friday and Saturday night and thanks to our one and only DJ Nick Nice for taking requests and keeping our skaters rollin all night long on both nights. 5.20.11 For those who know me, y’all know I don’t typically post anything to represent. However, on this occasion, it was duly warranted. Firstly, I would like to thank the hosts (VSC & Hood Times) for a fabulous event! With skate parties these days growing completely out of control with crowds and extended roll calls taking up more time than the skating, this event was truly a skater’s dream. Let me explain; as a real skater & someone who will not hesitate to drop a few hundred bucks to travel to go skating – that’s what I go to do. Yes, seeing faces I haven’t seen in months or maybe years is always an added bonus, but the real reason I travel for skating IS TO SKATE. This event was truly one to remember. It is in its infancy, yet the event exhibited maturities that many events that are in their 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th years still have yet to achieve. I can only assume it is because the event coordinators are real skaters themselves and have visited other events, listened to their customer base (the skaters) and heeded the advise of experience & customer service. The obvious outcome is an outstanding event with diversity in activities, well-chosen host hotel, carefully selected entertainment as well as rinks appropriate for the audience. And the Applebee’s thing? OMG!! That was truly original and I had a blast! Thanks once again to my VA skating family for a fabulous event! As they say, now I know. And with this knowledge, you can bet I will make this a yearly event for me from here on out. Now, onto the legal issue. This is a matter that has had me puzzled since I left the event. And a matter I have already alerted the authorities about. Perhaps some of the other skaters can bear witness to the tragedy that nearly befell me at the rink on Saturday night... As I mentioned earlier, I came to skate and have a good time. However, that was not what two individuals had in mind for me. These particular individuals had intent to harm me, and as a result, there is a wanted posted being circulated around the country to all post offices with a reward for the capture of DJ Wiz & DJ Nile for the attempted murder of guess who.....ME! All I wanted to do was skate, but NOOOOOOO, these two conspirators had other plans. Would either allow me to escape to sit down and catch my breath for a second? No, because just as soon as I tried, here they come with bangin’ joint after bangin’ joint, forcing me to remain on the floor (and do what I do....). I was compelled to keep skating. And as a result, I was barely able to escape with my life at oh, around 5:50am! DJ Wiz & DJ Nile, your day is comin’.... HighRise is a well known national skater and a member of the Bull City Rollers of Durham NC. At this event, you will be able to hear all types of music which will include National Skate Music, House, Old Skool, new R&B, and JB that you will never forget. 1.19.11 This passion that we have which can only be executed by a DJ, a floor and 8 wheels has created a family. A family that we often state is not only on the wood but extends past the wood as well. We are one of the largest, most unrecognized groups of people who have created an environment of overwhelming love amongst strangers. My first skate experience on a national scene had me stepping on the floor in Carolina back in 2006 and being swept off my feet within a matter of seconds from a young man from New York (I’m still looking for him to this day. LOL). After telling him that I was new to this, he told me, “Don’t worry ma. I got you.” And he did. I am honored to be a part of this family. What saddens me is the love that I see on the national scene is often times not taken home. We go out of town and love everyone from everywhere else, even FB friends we’ve never met, but come home and still hate the male or female that rolls past us at our own adult session. We make no attempts to better these friendships or even understand why they're in such an ill state to begin with. If we can love each other so profoundly on the national scene, why not create that love amongst unity in our own home rinks? This is where it all begins. Imagine how much more powerful our family can be if we were all getting along at home. I implore you all to try it. If there’s someone in your home rink that you’re not feeling, try to look past that and see if a relationship is mendable or possible. If you’re not received, understand that you tried, put it out there and allow that effort to permeate. Sometimes it’s not always an immediate fix, and time can create some amazing results. I implore you all to try one more thing. Take the same love that you show for your skate family, on and off the wood, OFF the wood. Take these same efforts and apply them to the people in your life who don’t skate as well. Attempt to mend and better relationships. Imagine what kind of effect and change you can have within your community. Everything starts with us and somewhere. Off the wood and outside of these skate parties, we are mothers, daughters, aunts, sisters, fathers, sons, uncles, brothers, executives, janitors, cashiers, CEO’s, etc. If we all took the same approach in applying more positive interactions with the next person, the change would be profound. You are the real deal and it was a pleasure to roll with both of you. Toure (Cee Cee) aka Uncle Jam Clark came back home to support King’s RockSkate. Cee Cee was a Marine and is now in the Army. He is the president of the Augusta Jam Skaters and toured with the United States Army Show doing what he loves best (Roller Skating). Our good friend Cee Cee skated all over the world for the United States Army providing our troops and civilians with a skating show that only his superstardom could bring. DJ FreeStyle provided a special blend of music Friday night that had skaters rolling hard until 4am. A tag team of DJ M. Dollaz and DJ JB worked the house with breathtaking music all night long. Season Greeting to everyone in the Sk8 World. God knows how much we missed all of you. The marriage life is going great , Kim is still crazy but i love her anyway. I can truly say i married my best friend, and she bring the best out of me. Our three sons (Malik, Zend`e & Stan) are all healthy ,on the Honor Roll & still skating of course. We are planning to get back on the road in 2011 and attend as many skate events as we can. Dee & Denise of Tenn you guys are on the top of this list when we get started. Midwest All-stars have recommitted ourselves to giving the Milwaukee area a National Skate event that Wisconsin skaters can be proud of. He have also made new commitments to do more parties with purposes and more events with meaning.
The Roll Models will be hosting several a fundraiser this year to raise money to help pay for there trip to Atlanta Ga in May. This is not just another skate trip . This trip is to give our young people the opportunity to tour Historic Black Colleges in Georgia while doing what they love. 100% of all proceeds will go directly toward this event. The Roll Models (Teen Scene) are put together a Skate calendar for 2011 as fundraiser . City: Any one I care to go to for skating Club: None Favorite Rink: The ones with GOOD music I was informed that Jarel from Crowd Cutta Productions in Columbus committed suicide before Thanksgiving. This was a surprise to all who knew him. I remember seeing him this past Sunday, skating without a care in the world. He didn't seem to have any signs with problems. However, on his Facebook page, he did show signs at the end of a man who felt that there was nothing left...no hope, no options, no one to understand. In the skating community, we have to be more open to people around us who may be going through tough times. A skating group is a great way to gain strong friendships and bonding. However, we must continue to offer ANY skater a hand, an ear or words of insight. In this world, we must be vigilant than ever to keep a good relationship with our fellow skaters whether they are in a group or not. The skating community is one family and when one suffers we all suffer. During this holiday season, just give another member of the skating community you know or not a hello. Coming to "Raleigh" North Carolina again this year is the hottest skate party of the year. King's RockSkate is the amazing holiday skating affair that brings great music, incredible hospitality, a refreshing skating atmosphere, and tasty food to all skaters. This year's event will be bringing something new to the Raleigh area. Our super DJ's are M. Dollaz (NC), JB (DC/MD), FreeStyle (NC). Dollaz and JB are Adrenalin Award nominated DJ's who are national veterans in the skate world and will be bringing the skate family a new, fresh style of RockSkate music. The new DJ on the block, FreeStyle is one of the premier JB skaters known nationwide for his skate style. He has stepped out to perform on the 1's and 2's while keeping skaters rolling hard. A new skate style will be introduced at the RockSkate this year. You can't miss it! On Friday night (That's My Song/Ladies Night), you can get your roll on and test out the wood to the super sounds of one of the Allstar DJ's. Friday night is 1/2 price for Ladies with college ID's. On Saturday night, "The RockSkate" will be the best party of the year. Come and taste Lil Kym's buffet of homemade food that you will not forget. RockSkate shirts will be on sale both nights. Vendors are welcomed but space is limited.
