Hey Sk8 family if you weren't there you missed a good time at The Ohio Skate Explosion Sk8 Jam held Aug. 6-8 and to my blood sister Mrs. Rollin Diva you and Dyme Rollerz ( some r my sorrors Zeta Phi Beta) did the DAMN thing. I'm still being told by some skaters they had a good time. It was so nice seeing so many skaters from the different cities and much love to CINCINNATI, DAYTON, COLUMBUS, AKRON, CLEVELAND, INDY, CHICAGO, TENNESSEE, VIRGINIA, PITTSBURG, DC, ST LOUIS, LOUISVILLE, BALTIMORE, NY, NJ and that was just from those cities I knew. I'm sure there were other cities and forgive me for not mentioning those cities or naming each individual but you no who you are and much love and peace.
Now that you've had a little time to recover and get a little rest I ask that you mark your calendar for October 9, 2010 and get ready to come to Cincinnati to roll hard again at the OHIO ROLL CALL SKATE JAM (flyer on skategroove) and don't forget to come and represent your city and see which city both in and out of Ohio have the largest turnout and don't forget the largest clubs in and out of Ohio wearing their Club Shirts (5 or more) will win a cash prize so come strong and earn that represent for the largest skate club of the year.
Much Love,

It's been quite awhile since I've last been on this site and and I must say that it has grown even more family oriented and FAMILY CONCERNED! The expressions of concern and compassion for your fellow skaters's and their families well being transends beyond the actual roll on the skatefloor. This is what I've read and sensed from the reading of many "Represents!" Posted. The realnest is trully real ! I realize We all are truly "ONE FAMILY!" connected from the heart whether you are from L.A. To N.Y. and all points in between North or South From Detroit to Dallas!. I Just wanted to say if this chain of concern is happening here it may very well be the model of what should be happening World Wide!! Concern and Caring For One Another! Hello Skate Family,
It is with the greatest sorrow and a broken heart that I tell the skate family of the passing of my dear friend John Wendell White. In the skate world everyone knew him as Wendell White. He left us on Saturday, June 12, 2010. As many of you knew Wendell had been sick for many years, and on dialysis. Every day was a struggle for him, but he still keep a smile and kept it moving.
Wendell traveled to different skate trips with his skating brothers Hector, Donald and Eric, and Darryl Charlie. I went on a few trips too, but mostly I was there when he needed someone to take him shopping when he was sick or to his sister’s. I was his hangout partner when he was lonely. My skate brother and friend will truly be missed.
I’m sorry that this information is just getting out to the skating family. It will be too late for most people to attend the funeral but I will listed the information below.
Rosa Funeral Home at 11am
1705 Fifth Avenue
Bay shore, LI ( Exit 42N off the Southern State) (Across from the Entenmanns Bakery)
Wendell, it’s not goodbye, but see you later. I love you

We would like to take this time to say “Thank You” the skaters from Atlanta; Indy (Sherri & company); Marilyn (Cali); KP and our Flint Family skaters and especially to the Detroit skaters that came out in huge numbers to help make the June 26th Memorial for our own Mr. Charles “The Wood” Haywood an tribute, that will forever stay in our hearts! A memorial table was set-up with his trophies, pictures; and his skates!!! Skaters were taking pictures with his skates, it was an unbelievable and touching feeling throughout the rink and you could just see the Love that everyone had for Charles. Reggie Gunn, Chuck Yates, Charlotte Beachum and Wayne Kendrix did a skating tribute as these 3 skaters did shows with him and/or have learn from him. Charles skates were put in the middle of the floor and a ring of skaters holding hands skated around the skates giving a tribute, this was fitting for “Mr. Wood”! Cookie & I prepared 6 different types of salads, bake chicken, pound cakes, cupcakes, peach cobbler, fruit salad, and punch for the skaters to munch and mingle. DJ Ken Smallz, Charles brother played the music and they were SKATIN that night…Thank You Ken, we will have you & Jo in our prayers. Thanks again to all the out-town skaters that came that night, Thanks to our faithful Detroit skaters that always show Skaters Love, and to all the Detroit skaters that came to the funeral----we were in there DEEP!!!.....

The service and memorial skate for Norman Carr was a time to see the unity of skaters past and present. Norman was not only a excellent skater, He was a World War II veteran, a hard worker and a loving father. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are a testimony of how his legacy will live on. The service was also a testimony of his legacy as skaters from the state of Ohio came down to remember him. At the Memorial Skate, State Rep, Alicia Reece announced "Norman Carr Day" on behalf of the state of Ohio.
When I first started skating at an adult session. Norman was the first person that said hello. He welcomed me with open arms and never said a negative word about people who enjoyed skating. He would tell you to keep trying and he would have that smile and laugh that would remind you that life is fun. He was always helpful to others, taught people how to skate and if you had a problem with your skates, he would stop skating and go to work to fix them. With his passing, a 70-year skating career ended with his achievement of having the first African-American owned roller rink in Cincinnati. .
I'll miss the birthday parties we had for him on the Father's Day skate at the rink. Norman Carr was to many the "skating father" of Cincinnati. He will be loved and missed by all.

It had been a long time, but I'm back. First, giving thanks to the Man above for all that He has done and giving prayer to all our skate families that has lost someone this year. As Showtime said we are a big FAMILY and we have to start acting like one. Now for some good news, STL ROLLERS have a summer camp support team that have sent 12 kids from ages 9 -12 to summer camp this year. These are kids that have never been out of the the city other to another city, never been to the woods or been without a TV,Cell Phone or a Computer. It good to see a kid face light up when they have seen something new for the first time. So we (STL ROLLERS) would like to thank all who have help to make this happen. THANK YOU. We still need your help for next year too. So go to the web site, make a donation, it's for the kids. Also would like to thank all that made it to the skate party, we had a nice time and the music was GREAT. I got my roll on. Again THANKS!! I hope that you all have a Blessed and Wonderful year. See you on the wood and remember be careful out there, slow skaters to the to the MIDDLE so us ROLLERS can skate. LOL :-) LOVE YA ALL!!

I just want to say thanks to Alicia Reece and friends for hosting the FREE memorial skate for Mr. Norman Carr. It was great seeing all the old school, mid school, and new school skaters on the floor in HARMONY. That is how he would have wanted it and that is how he wants us to continue. Believe it or not we are all family. The DJs did a great job to say the very least. Months ago the skate community was a very strong force. They say adversity makes you stronger. We have carried heavy hearts and dealt with the homegoings of our loved skaters by showing support to each other and their families. We showed our strength and I feel us getting stronger. I roll with some awesome people!!!

Greetings, Skate Family. It's been along time since I posted on here, but I've been very busy having recently retired after 33 years on my job with the State of Michigan. In addition, I'm almost finished with rehabilitation from a knee injury I suffered a few months ago. I'm skating again and the knee is just about back to full strength, so I will be attending the Chicago Skate Jam July 2nd weekend.
In any event, when I signed onto SKATEGROOVE I was absolutely heartbroken to read of the passing of Tex, Linda, and Charles. All were phenomenol skaters as well as wonderful people, and they will be greatly missed by all. They left their marks upon the Skateworld, and our hearts as well. On the various occasions that I had the pleasure of skating/conversing with each of them, they were always friendly, polite, helpful, respectful, and fun. They were the kind of skaters that made attending the national parties so enjoyable. May each of them rest safely in peace in the arms of the Lord. This makes it crystal clear that none of us knows when our last roll will be. Until then, each of us would be wise to enjoy our lives, enjoy skating, be kind and tenderhearted to one another, build good relationships, help one another, speak positive words, and teach a child, remembering that it's greater to give than to receive. My apologies that this rep is so late. Shout outs to Diamond & Betty (DC), Ice (Philly), Joi (ATL), Greg & Kim (Miltown), CMW, Chi-Force, and Dre and The System (Chicago), D-Nice & Rainbow (St. Louis), Reggie (Detroit), & Desi & Wes Jiggs (Columbus). See many of you in Chicago! Be blessed!

I personally would like to give huge recognition to the Crashboyz and Justice League for throwing their First Annual (Crash League) cookout in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, PA. Also The Philly Rollers and Philly Divas for throwing their First Annual (Celebration of Life) cookout. Both cookouts were much success and they exemplified the true definition of skate love and unity off the wood. The food was great, music was great and everyone had a good time. The whole Tri State was in attendance (including Bmore and DC). A few people bought their skates and found a place to skate. SKATE LOVE SKATE LOVE ALL DAY. Please look forward to it again next year. Especially if you missed this one:-)

I just wanted to say Thank You All once again for showing up and showing out for the Charles "The Wood" Haywood Memorial Service. It was an event that I won't forget. The love and support was truely felt. Skaters that had not been seen for a while came out. Rink Owners and Rink Managers also came and showed their support. The Djs Spin, Brian and Ken did a great job in honoring Charles. In 5 days Atlanta Skaters and Rink Owners raised almost $4000.00 and donations are still pouring in. Special Thanks to The Atlanta Hardwood Steppers (a skate club that Charles was a member of) for your large donation. A very special Thanks to Kenny, Trish, Mike (and others) for holding me up and allowing me to lean on you.

Alicia Reece, I would like to say thank you so much for all you have done. These are words that are seldom spoken, so often people only focus on the negative things, forgetting all the positive things you have done. You have given your time and commitment to and for skating.
Not to mention the numerous free skate party’s you have given us, also the generous amounts of money you have given out at your skate events. The Obama skate was great, being part of history celebrating our 44th President who is African-American. The Freedom center in all what it stands for; we were able to have a joyous event at this facility, I hope everyone took the opportunity to look at the history that was preserved in this venue.
Although everything can’t run as smooth as planned, you stepped up to make a right by refunding skaters money that had been charged extra, for the Dream is Real Weekend, skate party. You are a class act, many would not have thought twice about what happened let along refund money. Again kudos, and thanks for everything.

I am responding to the untruths that "Krash Kourse" (Kris Ramsey) of The Dream is Real Weekend displayed here on Skategroove.
First of all you have absolutely NO IDEA how national ADULT skating events are organized. These adult events make it very clear to their consumer(REAL NATIONAL SKATERS) what the price is with advance price and door price as well as the age restriction (if any). All the "fluff" of having '80's Hip Hop Artists and a '90's R & B Artist is something most REAL skaters could care less about. REAL SKATERS TRAVEL TO SKATE!
Here is THE TRUTH of what was done on that weekend to REAL SKATERS:
1.) I called Rashid, myself and HE SAID it would be $15 at the door.
2.) You went from $17 to $20 in 15 mins. (Exact time. 12:30 AM- 12:45 AM)
3.) Only 1 member of Whodini (Ecstacy ONLY. Out of 3 members)arrived at 12:40 walked around the rink and had left the building by 1 AM.(His estimated time of appearance was 10 maybe 15 mins. max.)
If you, the host, and the organization cared anything about your "National Skaters" that you heavily advertised would be there, then what attempts did you make to make sure your other OHIO, Indy, and Kentucky Skaters had a chance to get advance tickets? Go to your website? Well, lets see if I had done so then I would have paid $14 for a $12 ticket.(Yeah, remember that good old service charge that you added per ticket if someone would have purchased their ticket online.)
I could go on and on but bottom line is YOU, The Host(Alicia Reese), and the organization was WRONG!! Next time you all want to get in the business of throwing a NATIONAL skate party ask some EXPERIENCE coordinators how its done. WE, REAL SKATERS don't pay that much at the door to attend some of the BIGGEST SKATE parties of the year. And believe me they have the longevity and respect for their consumer that you surely lack knowledge of.
And you can best believe, NEXT YEAR, I will be at a TRUE NATIONAL SKATE PARTY.
VA Beach, I WILL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!!!

OK so my Mom told me if I did not have anything to say then do not say it at all. So I was being very quiet until this morning. I feel the need to post a response to the post made by Kris of Operation "Stick Up". The majority of the skaters and hosts of the national parties are good people that enjoy skating and enjoy seeing others skate. For the most part these parties feel like family reunions. The skate party at the Dream Is Real Weekend was a nightmare. How can an event promoted so well turn out so bad? After speaking with many members of my skate family this is what I know to be true. The skate session was promoted to be $12 in advance and $15 at the door. I appreciate Krash Kourse for offering the 20% discount for a weekend pass but unfortunately that was not my course. Many of us were planning on just doing the skate session because that is what we do; skate. That is why I am on Skategroove and not Comedy Central with this post. Thank you for giving me the option of a wonderful weekend but I opted to skate since that is my passion. I was unable to get my tickets days before the party. I arrived at the rink about an hour before the party hoping to find some $12 tickets but willing to pay the extra $3. When I get to the rink I was told admission was "either $17 or $20." No one could tell me what it was gonna be. I understand it was both; some people were charged $17 some $20. The problem I have with this is you have me on the highway to get to your party (I had plenty of choices Detroit, VA Beach Cali) that you advertised for $15 now you charging $20? I called the Fun Factory's hotline and the answering machine said "the Chicken & Waffle skate Jam $15." I see a person affiliated with the party in the parking lot and I am told that "these type of events prices are subject to change." People pay $20 $17 $12 or $9.60 (per Chris) to skate and see Whodini and they don't perform? You advertised like there were gonna be chicken and waffles like Roscoe's but had wing dings and Eggos? Then after having a change of heart or (what I believe) not being able to take the heat you refund certain people $3. Math Quiz $20 - $15 is $5 not $3. Hoodwinked comes to mind. The nerve!! I have a question if you were giving us such a good deal and you stand behind your actions why are you giving partial refunds? Why are you on Skategroove defending yourself? Why are you on Skategroove talking about Hip Hop legends and Jet and Vibe Magazine? I tell you why because you know you were wrong and even more you know that the skate community is way more classy than what you gave us credit for and in 2011 you might want to skip the skate party. Funny thing about the party you were weeding out the kids? ID check does that. From what I understand the kids had advance tickets plus $2.50 more for rental skates while the real skaters with skates that sell for upwards of $500 were "stuck up" for $20 or told to kick rocks. I think you need to go back to the drawing board with your party as well as your apology.

I would like to thank Skategroove for allowing us to share the 2010 Dream Is Real Weekend with our skating family. This weekend, which occurs once a year, every Memorial Day Weekend, is a labor of love and is developed as an entertainment weekend. We have organized this weekend with the hope and aspiration of growing it into the size of the Essence Music Festival in five years, and since we the organizers are Die-Hard skaters, we wanted to keep our skating community involved.
This is why we allowed skaters to buy tickets that were 20% off for all events and pick any event that they wanted to attend. With the 20% discount the cost translated as follows for the Dream Is Real Events: a morning work-out free skate event, the main skating event Chicken and Waffles skate jam hosted by Whodini costing $9.60, a premier old school Hip Hop Concert (already voted one of the best concerts of the year by jet magazine) hosted at a Coney Island Water and Amusement Park for $16, a unique White Party and first event ever hosted at the National Underground Freedom Center for $20, and comedy show and happy hour for $8. The total package for the weekend only cost $54 for five events featuring National artist like Spike Davis(comedian), AJ Jamal(comedian), Bootsy Collins ( Music legend inducted into the Rock-n-Roll hall of fame), Montell Jordan (two-time Grammy award winner), Kool Moe Dee ( Grammy Award winner), Whodini (VH-1 Hip Hop legends) UTFO( Hip Hop Pioneers) and Rakim (Voted one of the Greatest M.C.’s of all times by MTV, Rolling Stones, Source Magazine, VH-1, and VIBE magazine).
I say all this to say we offered our skate family a great discount, to a festival weekend named one of the best festival’s to attend in Cincinnati by the Metromix. We are proud of our city and all that is has to offer and we promote heavily for all of our events and due to the large amount of publicity(radio, newspaper ads, billboards,& T.V commercials) we offer our skaters these discounts on advanced tickets so we can charge more at the door to ensure that everyone in attendance has the right frame of mind, to party and leave the BS at home ( to weed the KIDS and trouble makers out). We apologize for any inconvenience that any skater may have experienced, if you ever attend another one of our events please find Rashid and call him in advance so he can have your tickets ready at the discounted price, once you arrive. Remember our events are for the Grown and Sexy and we want to keep it that way.
We have bigger plans for the 2011 Dream Is Real Weekend, and hope to see you there please stay posted (I hate to hit you all with a cliché statement…..but) you don’t want to miss it we are taking it up a notch in 2011.
Yours truly, wheels bonded to the wood!

To the family;
Im am so hurt in my heart to hear about Charles Haywood. This was one of the best skaters ever. When I spoke to Joi, I was balling on the phone, because I felt like God had already taken two skaters from us and he wouldn’t take another, but God is all knowing and all powerful. He is the only one who knows when it’s that time. So once I calmed down and in speaking with Joi, I started to realize that the memories I had of Charles were such great memories, I would never forget him, and that he would always be there in our lives when we skate.. He was such a big part of why I started to skate, and I thank him for always encouraging me. I will always miss you Charles. RIP my brother!

Please forgive me but I am new to the posting and fairly new to this site. In fact, Charles put me on to this site and said " if I'm to be a skater, I should keep up with the real skaters."
I was very saddened to hear about Charles, as he has been in Jacksonville, Florida we have been skating together. I have come to learn that Charles is one of a kind. Not knowing my children, Charles took each one of them and spent time with them on the rink floor to perfect what skating skills they have. Charles has a large heart for children, and cares for everyone. My daughters and I are diligently praying for Charles.

He who has gone, so we but cherish his memory, abides with us, more potent, nay, more present than the living man. As we try and comprehend these profound losses, let yourself cry knowing each tear is a note of love rising to the heavens. As I look up toward the stars I have to ponder that perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy and that they are in God’s care, forever and a day. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch, we may not understand why you left this earth so soon, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived and that your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget.
To the families of Linda Corley, Anthony "Tex" Smith and Larry Clark
Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. God saw them getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around them and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
To the family of Charles Haywood
The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears. “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart." Psalm 91:4
To anyone that may be facing trying times, difficult circumstances or trials and tribulations
I leave you with this… May each day bring you renewed strength and brighter times. "But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 31

First give honor to GOD, my Lord and Saviour, with him I can do all things, without him I can do nothing.
Isn’t GOD so amazing! While Tex was being honored for the great individual he was, Linda slipped away quietly to prepare them a place to skate in eternity. When Tex got the news, he knew she was at peace and decided to make his final journey. As he started down the path and was almost home, he heard a voice saying, hey wait for me, I’m so tired. Can I join you on your way? It was then that Tex grabbed Larry by the hand so he would not be alone on his journey and they joined Linda in that magnificent place. Eternal Life!
As we remember these three wonderful people, remember GOD loved them more. They are now in there final resting place. No more illness, no more pain, no more worrying, because they have made it to that Glorious Place in Heaven. Hallelujah!
To the family of Tex, he was a great man, with such a big heart, his smile lit up the room, do not cry nor worry, he soul is at rest. To the family of Larry, no one knows the day nor the hour! Just remember the time that you shared before he left that evening. GOD does not make any mistakes. He’s always in control. Larry didn’t suffer. When he fell, GOD lifted him and the pain was gone.
To all of you, live each day to the fullest, for we are not guaranteed tomorrow! Do all that you want to do, and enjoy each day like it the last day here on earth.

Charles Haywood and his family is in my prayers also. Charles has taught me so much in the past when it comes to skating and he is a joy to be around. I pray that he will recover and will have the ability to influence others in a positive way like he did with me.

I want to extend to the family of Linda Corley, my condolences, and to let them know that God has another angel with him. When I found out what happened, I felt like one of my family members had passed and I was really sadden by this loss. Linda was truly one of the best on “eights”. I recently spoke with one of my club members and we chatted about when we began skating and how Linda just stood out among the woman that could really roll. She inspired both of us to really want to become proficient in our craft. I still see her spinning, in the middle of the floor. God has blessed us to have her in our lives even if for a little while, and I really just wanted the family to know that one of our true angels is going home to rest. RIP Linda…..love you!!!!!!!

In Remembrance of Linda Corley...I am absolutely heartbroken having learned of the passing of Linda Corley.I can only say that I hope her last days were spent with family and friends and full of love. I pray she did not suffer pain. When skating, if the person alongside you goes down, you do what? You help them back up. I can say that my writing a "Represent" is cathartic and helps me pick myself back up. My older sister whom some of you may have met or been introduced to by Jody, in Charlotte this year, is herself a breast cancer survivor. I had in past conversations asked my sister if she would mind if I would use her name in any reference to breast cancer. She freely gave her permission because in her heart and spirit and as a Deacon in her church, Emmanuel Baptist in Brooklyn, she could hope that her battle with cancer can only be an inspiration to someone undergoing the same struggle. Through God's good grace, my sister has become a ten-year breast cancer survivor. Through my prayers I had hoped that Linda too would become a survivor. Sadly, Linda would not enjoy the same good fortune. Since it was not meant to be, or at any rate, did not happen, I mourn her passing. In her honor I will add her name to the growing list of names I honor when I do my next "Komen Race for the Cure." Jody and I try to attend at least one "Komen Race for the Cure" a year either in NYC's Central Park or the national event in Washington, DC. I would encourage everyone's involvement and participation. When you see the great number of participants and in particular the number of survivors, it is truly a rewarding as well as an awe-inspiring experience. May you rest in eternal peace Linda. |

First give honor to my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Without him I am nothing, with him I can do all things. It deeply saddens me to hear about the loss of Ms. Linda of Wizards on Wheels. My condolences go out to her family. It wasn't too long ago that my sister made that same journey. Therefore I can smile and rejoice at the homegoing of Linda. She has recevied the glory of GOD and her soul now rest in eternity. To the family, cherish the good times, the memories of who she was and the joy she brought to each and every one of you. We too have to take that journey one day. GOD saw fit to deliver her to that mighty place in heaven. Where her body is healed and no more suffering. I know you say it was too soon, but remember we are only lent here for a while. It is in GOD's time that he calls us back home. That ole cancer had taken over her body, but GOD has delivered her soul. She is smiling down from heaven! Trust in the Lord for he makes no mistakes.
To Tex and family. Keep your heads up to the heavens, for it is now in GOD's hands. Whatever you are going through, GOD is carrying you through. Just relax, pray and enjoy the journey. He is a healing GOD and will heal your soul. I pray that this illness be delivered from your body. That GOD will allow you more time hear on earth. I rebuke this illeness from your body in the name of Jesus. It is done. Continue to pray and ask GOD for his deliverance. He is a mighty GOD and deserves to be praised. I love you man!

Michael and Shorty, 2 of the original members of Wizard On Wheels, are throwing a Benefit Skate Party for Tex on May 15, 2010 at Franklinville Skate rink in NJ from 9 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. Most of Tex's club members from Wizard on Wheels will be there to "step" in honor of Tex that evening, and God willing, we are praying Tex will still be here and able to make it to the event in his honor, as well. We're asking that all those skaters who were ever Blessed with seeing Tex perform or listen to his DJ sounds throughout his almost 50 years of skating will try to be there to help boost Tex spirits during his last days with us. We are praying that this event will give Tex the will to live and defy the doctors diagnoses of "2 weeks". If you can't make it, please continue to pray for Tex. Linda Corley is also one of the original skate members of Wizard on Wheels and also in need of our prayers. Please pray for them both and ask for a miracle. When prayers go up, Blessings come down!

I just happened to be scrolling down the Groove Newz column when I came across Tex from Philadelphia's (Wizards on Wheels) name in the Skaters in Need of Prayer column---which we sometimes tend to gloss over. I was deeply saddened to learn that Tex was ill. In fact I recently did hear that Tex was ill when ICE from Philly mentioned both Tex and Linda (Corley) in his most gracious and impassioned acceptance speech at the Adrenalin Awards. ICE acknowledged the contributions of both Tex and Linda in his development as a skater. He also reminded us to uplift and hold both Tex and Linda in our prayers. It received a round of applause. I would pray that they both remain courageous, maintain their strength and display the same determination and tenacity that they display on the floor as they battle whatever illnesses that have befallen them. Tex, Linda, if you read this, please know that I am (we all are) pulling for you and pray for your recovery.

There was an incident at a rink that happened recently. A skater made a comment about a DJ not performing well. The DJ threw heated words toward the skater which he ignored. In a fit of rage, the DJ took a rental skate and threw it at the skater. Then got out the DJ booth and stood on a table ready to fight the skater and threatened him. The management told the skater to leave but the skater explained that no matter what was said, he acted irresponsibly and will be sued for assault. The following day, the skater called the corporate office of the rink. The manager quickly called back and offered a apology and agreed that the action the DJ caused crossed the line, He lost his position with another rink by the same roller skating company and has been dealt with for this incident.
DJ's have a hard job working at a skating rink. They have to make sure the music is good for everyone to enjoy and take criticism. I've admired the work they do. I've known many skating dj's who are professional to handle any comment from intelligent to crude and show they are fair to all. This incident was not professional. It showed a person who has years experience working in rinks and clubs to make an attempt to be a child. The management was also irresponsible since they did not take the violation seriously. If you know of any rinks who have management and staff who treat customers lightly, don't let it go. Make a point to show them the severity of their actions. Contact others to stay away from the rink until things change. Call the rinks corporate office or whoever they work for. Make your voice heard for good rolling in any rink you go to.

On behalf of the Incredible Mid-Atlantic East Coast Rollers, I'd like to thank the Adrenalin Awards Committee for hosting such an elegant and exciting weekend. Brenda and Nikki, you do a marvelous job of pulling this event together every year and we appreciate all of your hard work. Thank you for pouring your hearts and souls into this event because we could really feel the love in the room. Where else can skaters attend a formal event honoring each other for such an affordable price? All I can say is, "WOW!" BeautyDoll, Mr. VP, Zee Mac, and I represented the Incredibles this year and we had a fabulous time in our "Tux & Tails." The banquet was so nice and it was wonderful to see our skate family all dressed up. We are already looking forward to the 10th Annual Adrenalin Awards.
We were truly humbled to be presented with the 2009 Adrenalin Award for Social Service. We are blessed by God to be able to give back and to provide a service to our community. It is such an awesome feeling to be recognized for our dedication to the community service projects to which we are committed. I was fighting back the tears of incredible joy.

Hi skate family,
I wanted to give HUGE shout outs to DNICE and all who made the Midwest skate jam a very successful event. The weather was outstanding and veryone was in a great mood.
The all white skate Friday was great (with the exception of those who didn't wear white, shame on you all) but we had fun anyway. The fish fry Saturday was the best, shout out to all the shefs on hand and to all the DJs playing the jams.
And then there was the pajama jam and soul train line, for those of you who missed this it was a site to see. Then to wrap up the weekend there was the final skate jam which was the best yet with the hottest DJs......
Until the next party take care and God Bless.....

I love all things roller skating! I am a roller dancer but I am also learning jam skating. Roller skating is a wonderful way to stay fit and have a ball at the same time. If you are ever in San Diego, come check out the scene at Skate World and we are skating at the beach every weekend. Happy skating!

I just read today
that 8 teenagers were shot at a roller rink in Gary, Indiana. The
rink was promoting a concert and skate but there was a commotion
outside the parking lot which started the shooting. All the teens
are recovering well since there were no life-threatening injuries.
This event is a concern to me since I work with young kids and skate.
Many times many adults question teenagers for their actions and
reasons for what they do. They appear to be wild with no sense of
judgment. We must remember that teenagers, no matter how old they
appear to be, are still KIDS. They need guidance, help, and an adult
figure in their lives to help them with decisions. A good adult
presence can turn any child's situation into a positive direction.
I bring this up especially
to the adult skaters. I attend many adult sessions but I have gone
to family and teen skating sessions as well. Children are always
happy to see you and they want to learn from you. They may never
know your name but they know you can skate and skate good. They
want to imitate and learn from you. From there, they begin to trust
you and listen to your advice and judgment. In the end you become
a ROLE MODEL. I have many kids who were 4,5 and 6 and many teens
who are adults now and still remember me and tell me that they learned
a lot from me and they remember the fun and lessons learned. I still
skate at a family session and it feels good to show young children
and teens skating skills and tell them about the national parties.
It gives them a future to look forward to instead of the shooting
and fighting.
Regardless if you
have kids or not, adult skaters should attend family skating sessions
and be role models to the young. It doesn't take a lot of time.
Just one session a week, a five minute lesson and a one minute hello
and "Good job" once in a while makes a big difference.
It goes a long way in their lives and you will give them a different
direction which in the end, will save a young life.
